The Washoe County School Board is now asking for input from the public before they name a new superintendent.
On Tuesday Trustees met to discuss the qualities they're looking for in Washoe County's next superintendent.
You may remember-- the board had decided to appoint Interim Superintendent Traci Davis to the position back in March, but had to rescind that decision due to concerns about Nevada's Open Meeting Law. Now they're expanding the process to include a public survey. "A lot of times, certain interest groups get all the input, but we'd like to have the input of everyone,” says WCSD Board President John Mayer.
The survey may also ask the public whether residents believe the district should forego the cost of a broader search and directly appoint a qualified individual.
Ideally-- trustees say they'd like someone with classroom experience, financial management skills and the ability to work with a diverse student population.
They say the superintendent will need to help rebuild public confidence and address school construction and repair needs.
But Mayer says there's no timeline on when they'll make a decision. "We are going to take our time with this, and try to do a great job, and get a great superintendent to lead Washoe County."
The public survey is supposed to be released one week from today. It will be open until June 18 - and then the results are up for review at the meeting on June 30.
