Naomi Irion Remembered.jpg

Thursday, March 12, marks the fourth anniversary of the disappearance of 18-year-old Naomi Irion.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office posted in remembrance of Irion on its Facebook page on Thursday.

"While Naomi is no longer with us, she is not forgotten. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office continues to keep Naomi’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers as we remember her and honor her memory," the post said in part.

Irion was waiting in her car for a shuttle to take her to work at Panasonic on March 12, 2022, when a suspect, alleged to be Troy Driver, walked up, got in her car, and drove off.

Irion's body was found on March 29, 2022, and identified by authorities the next day.

Driver pleaded not guilty to Irion's kidnapping and murder, and his legal team tried to have the charges against him dismissed, citing jurisdiction.

In August of 2022, Driver put a suicide note and confession in a deck of playing cards that was taken to his ex-girlfriend by an inmate who was released from custody.

The woman gave the information to law enforcement.

Lyon County's sheriff said the cards contained notes saying things like, "There's always been a terrible darkness inside of me" and "Guilt is crushing..."

It also said Driver would kill himself rather than pain his family with his alleged crimes.

After the note was given to law enforcement, the sheriff said Driver was placed on suicide watch and given a mental health evaluation, but was released from suicide watch after that evaluation and returned to his cell.

He would attempt suicide for the first time that same month, then again in March of last year.

On August 6th of 2023, he took his own life.

After her death, Irion's mother remembered her, saying, "This world would've been a better place with her in it."

Her brother, Casey Valley, said "Naomi was so compassionate, and so empathetic, and she had such a big heart, and it's really sad that there will be one less person like that in the world."
