It's the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and the first one we have to celebrate indoors.
Earth Day started in 1970 because of growing concern over air pollution caused by leaded gas. Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world, marked by more than a billion people every year, in more than 190 countries.
Due to the pandemic, many events celebrating Earth have gone virtual. This year, it's a digital call to action, with "Earth Day Live", a three-day live-stream with messages, performances and talks from politicians, scientists and entertainers.
Officials encourage people to partake in this live-stream series, as a way to honor the planet we call home, from indoors.
There are many live-streams happening over the course of three days. The Las Vegas live-stream starts at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday April 22, 2020.Â
