Thrift stores and non-profits around Reno are getting tons of donations after Christmas as folks replace their old stuff with new.
   Â
Christopher Thompson is the Retail Sales Manager at the Savers on Kietzke Lane and said that "thousands and thousands of pounds of product" are coming in after Christmas.
"Everyone is getting out with the old and in with the new," said Thompson.
They have been taking in clothing, household, and furniture items, but are still in need of warm clothes for the kids.
"We need a lot of kids clothing at the moment. We are looking to really outfit the kids who are coming, keep them warm," said Thompson.Â
Â
While traditional thrift stores charge customers for their items, The Good Shepherd Clothes Closet in Downtown Reno directly gives donations to those who need them most and most importantly, at no charge to them.
 Â
"A person comes in here with a voucher that they received from any number of about 170 organizations in Washoe County," said Chris Rhodes, Executive Director at The Good Shepherd.Â
"They bring the voucher in, they present it to us, and they are allowed to get free clothes. We never charge for anything that we do here."
Â
The Good Shepherd helps over 30,000 people each year including Marguerite Calbert. She says that she is incredibly grateful for what they do for her and her family.
 Â
"It helps out because I'm not working and you come here every 30 days and they help you out with clothes, hygiene stuff, and whatever you need," said Calbert.
Â
They have one item in particular that is scarce on their shelves.
"Men's (clothing) can be quite a problem and that's really what we need the most of," said Rhodes.
If you would like to help out and donate those or any type of clothing or personal item, The Good Shepherd is located at 335 Record Street in Downtown Reno.
