Amazon Partners With Food Bank of Northern Nevada to Help Fight Hunger

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada says 28,000 children are missing meals and qualify for free and reduced school lunches throughout the region.

Amazon associates from the Reno fulfillment center are volunteering their time to package nutritious snacks and donate money to the food bank.

Since 2012, about 25 volunteers from Amazon have dedicated more than 600 hours to make sure kids have food every single day.

"The Food Bank is one of our favorite organizations to volunteer for. It just does so much for our community and it touches every one of us, so it’s just something we all have a passion for,” says Diane Gorden, HR Assistant Amazon Fulfillment.

Volunteers sort and package food. On Tuesday, they packaged boxes to feed the elderly - and they donated money to an after-school meal program. They presented the food bank with a $10,000 donation for Kids Cafe dinners. The program provides free dinner to children across Washoe County. And the Food Bank is appreciative of any help they can get.

"Sorting and packing food is very labor intensive. We distribute about 14 and a half million pounds of food every single year and that takes a lot of hands, so groups that come regularly or even once, really make a difference in this fight,” says Jocelyn Lantrip, Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
