Better Business Bureau Says Warns of Census Job Scams

The Better Business Bureau says beware of Census employment scams.

Lately, scammers are posting about open census jobs online an don social media, then asking to be paid fees for applications on training.

Officials say federal agencies never charge application feeds and the Census Bureau will also not charge job-seekers for training or ask them to buy an equipment needed for the job.

Sources say scammers may ask people to provide personal and banking information to run a credit check or set up direct deposit.

Sometimes the scammers overpay victims with a fake check and then ask them to wire back the difference.

Officials say these are all ways to get illegal access to someone's bank account.

The Better Business Bureau is an important resource to help avoid employment scams.

Sources say the best way to apply for a Census job is to visit the U.S. Census Bureau's website or call the census Bureau's Jobs Line toll-free at 855-JOB-2020.
