Fire in Truckee

A man has been arrested in Truckee after an investigation into a vegetation fire that started behind the Safeway on Donner Pass Road.

The fire, first reported just after 1 p.m. Saturday, prompted a large response from regional Fire and Law Enforcement agencies. 

Truckee Police with the assistance of the California State Parks Police, made contact with 35-year-old Truckee resident, Samuel Soto.

They say an investigation revealed Soto had caused the fire and was attempting to flee the area.

Soto was booked for the unlawful and reckless causing of a fire to forest land. He has been booked into the Nevada County Jail.

Fire crews contained a wildfire burning near Donner Pass Road and Frates Lane in Truckee Saturday afternoon.

The fire burned just under an acre before firefighters had a handle on it.

Crews from Truckee Fire, CAL FIRE NEU, U.S. Forest Service-Tahoe National Forest, Olympic Valley Fire and Northstar Fire all responded.
