Hot rods from around the country have already started to pour into town.
On Sunday, the Bonanza Casino is hosting the official Hot August Nights pre-kickoff party in Reno.
The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the casino located at 4720 N. Virginia St.
Organizers say there were more than 300 entrants who will park their cars, pop open the hoods and share stories about their classic vehicles during the event. Entrants began parking their cars early Sunday morning and the Bonanza parking lot was at full capacity once the event began at noon.
There are a variety of cars, from Mustangs to classic pick-up trucks. All vehicles date back to 1976 or earlier. A Show 'n Shine featured the classic cars and the drivers had the chance to win trophies and prizes.
Live entertainment was also featured at the event, with Reno Mobile DJs playing music. Food vendors on site included Smee's Alaskan Fish Bar and Hot Rod Dogs.
The Hot August Nights pre-kickoff party is the biggest event of the year for the Bonanza Casino. The casino has been a major sponsor of Hot August Nights for sixteen years,
This year marks the 30th anniversary celebration of Hot August Nights in the Reno area.
Several other venues will host kickoff parties for the classic cars this week.
