The Reno City Council has approved a $130,000 donation to improve the ReTRAC East plaza.

The first phase of improvements will include new trees, flowers and landscaping at the lot between the Whitney Peak and Eldorado Casino Resort.

The Downtown Reno Partnership has been working with the City of Reno, citizens and surrounding businesses to create a conceptual plan to enhance the area.

An upcoming mural will also be painted directly on the ground and should last for three years with minimal maintenance.

Interested artists can find more information on the City of Reno website at RenoCulture.com under Call for Artists. The deadline to apply is October 5, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

“We are truly grateful for Bloomberg Philanthropies and their support of arts and culture in the City of Reno,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “We know that our citizens and downtown businesses have long wanted to activate the ReTRAC Plaza, so these two projects are a welcome addition to the The Biggest Little City.”

ReTRAC, or Reno Transportation Rail Access Corridor, is a 2.3 mile long underground train trench that cost $260+ million to build and was finished in 2005.
