It's a time-honored tradition for entrepreneurial-minded kids this time of year - lemonade stands. And this summer local kids are getting a little extra business from an unusual group.
It's pretty common to see lemonade stands like this one in your neighborhood during the summer, but don't be surprised if you see them attracting a lot of cops.
It's not because they're breaking the law, it's a new social media push called #copslovelemonadestands. They say it's a way to interact positively with the citizens. "Those one-on-one interactions with children and their families is just, it couldn't be more important, especially in today's day and age,” says Det. Ken Gallop.
The Sparks Police Department is the first Nevada agency to join the national #copslovelemonadestands movement. They're visiting the neighborhoods and posting about their experiences on social media.
And the kids say they're definitely on board.
"It was really cool, because, like, we know they're not going to get us in trouble. They're just helping our family and our neighborhood, to make it a safe place,” says 10-year-old Kammila Burk.
