Country Music Star Charley Pride Dies from COVID-19 Complications

Country music artist Charley Pride has died at the age of 86. His publicist released in a statement his death was the result of complications due to COVID-19.

Pride, the son of sharecroppers, was raised in Mississippi, and became the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. 

His hits included “Kiss an Angel Good Morning,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” “Burgers and Fries,” “Mountain of Love,” “You’re So Good When You’re Bad,” “Why Baby Why” and “Someone Loves You Honey.”

Pride had three Grammy Awards, dozens of No. 1 hits and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. In November, Pride was awarded the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMA Awards. 

Country music artist Dolly Parton wrote on Twitter that she was heartbroken about his death.
