Saturday marked the start to the inaugural Reno Craft Beer Week, a week full of events that will showcase the craft beer culture in Northern Nevada.
Dozens of breweries and restaurants will be partaking in more than 60 beer-filled events for an entire week. With everything from brewery tours, beer tastings, and competitions, there should be plenty for everyone to enjoy.
Don Vetter, organizer of the beer week, says a Reno Craft Beer Week is long overdue, so the celebrations should be well worth the wait.
"If we work together on these kinds of events, I think everyone gains, everyone benefits and if you look at craft beer, it kind of instills camaraderie and it is also an instigator for redevelopment," says Vetter.
As of April there will be 15 craft brewers in Northern Nevada; further growing the popular beer culture. According to Vetter, Nevada's craft beer case sales double that of the national average.
Local brewers say they anticipate large local crowds this week, but also hope to see beer lovers from out-of-state.
The celebrations kicked off Saturday at St. James Brasserie, where they released three of their new barrel aged beers. The local brewery says the beer scene in Nevada is continuously getting bigger, and craft beer week will help to display this growth. Jordan Moore says St. James Brasserie has been preparing for these celebrations for a few years.
“Every major beer city has one and it helps the economy, it helps the local beer scene and it brings everyone together in a way that nothing else really can," says Moore.
Organizers would also like to encourage participants to enjoy beer in moderation and to always plan for a safe ride home.
