David Blough, the backup quarterback for the Detroit Lions in the NFL, couldn't contain his excitement after his wife, Melissa Gonzales, qualified for the 400 meter hurdle finals at the Tokyo Olympics.
Camera footage shows Blough sitting in the Lions auditorium watching the semi-final heat of the 400-meter finals, shouting "Let's go Mel!" and jumping around the room pumping his fist.Â
Gonzales was born in Colombia and has dual citizenship with the U.S. She competes for the Colombian team.Â
Gonzales finished in second place with a time of 55.35 seconds and will compete in the event final Monday.
