You have until the end of Tuesday to donate to a local organization that helps recovering women.
For the last two days, our radio partners at Alice 96.5 have been Stepping Up the Holidays for STEP 2.
This is the 15th year Bill and Connie have been hosting this donation drive. STEP2 helps women who are suffering from drug addiction, poverty, and domestic violence rebuild their lives, by supplying them with daily necessities. People have been donating extra dishes, new bedding, furniture, and even cash.
"It's hard to quantify how much people have given, but I can tell you, it's been a lot," said Diaz Dixon, Chief Executive Officer of STEP2.
STEP2 has a success 63% success rate of recovering women, compared to the national average of 17%.
"They say, 'I don't know where I would be right now if it wasn't for STEP2," said Connie Wray, referring to the women in the program. "So I think that's the reason why we continue on is because we actually see that success."
People who donated Tuesday morning said it was easy to do.
"It was just stuff I had in the house that we were not using," said Jackie Ray of Reno. "When I look at extra I have, I felt like I needed to donate it."
