The Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) is asking the community to help replenish their food supply as they wait for donations that typically come in during the holiday season.
They're holding a Stock the Shelves food drive in the parking lot of Sam's Club on Kietzke Lane on Thursday, from noon until 6 p.m.
Volunteers will be available to unload donations and each person who donates will be entered in a free drawing to win staycations and gift cards. Prizes include a Suite Staycation at The Row, a $100 Macy's Gift card, a $25 gift card and T-shirts at Craft Beer & Wine and a $200 staycations prize from the Peppermill.
FBNN is serving an average of 92,000 people each month, with half of those being children and seniors.
The most needed foods are:
- Canned Meals like hearty stews, chili, and soups
- Protein foods such as tuna peanut butter, canned meats and beans,
- Whole Grains: like whole grain pasta, brown rice, oatmeal and whole grain cereals.
- Canned Vegetables that are low sodium
- Canned Fruit that are in their own juice

You can also donate to the food bank for our Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive coming up on Friday, December 7th.
We'll be taking donations at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, the governor's mansion in Carson City and the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.
