At just 15 years old, Mia Wright drives fast and turns left. She's a Reno teenager with a passion for racing, and she says her dream is to reach the NASCAR Cup Series.

She and her family recently returned from Las Vegas, where she took fourth place racing Legends model cars in the Silver State Road Course Series under her race name, 'Monster Mia.'

“The minute I get in the car, I’m locked in, and I’m focused, and it is scary. But it’s more of a fun scary," she told 2 News Nevada.

Wright first got into racing at age 5, when she woke up to a go-kart in her living room on Christmas Day. She won her first championship at 6 years old.

She says it's her father who has inspired her to pursue racing as a career.

“My dad’s one of my biggest role models, and he’s the one that pushes me to my best," she said.

Christopher Wright is her coach, her sponsor through his business—Wright Haus Consulting—and he's the voice in her ear keeping her safe on the track. He says it's fun to watch his daughter race, but it's also scary.

“I’m trying to be professional and a dad. I’m her spotter on the radios, so I’m trying to keep a balance of that," he said.

'Monster Mia's' next race is in Roseville, California. She'll be racing junior late models at a championship there.

Wright has also just crossed the age where she's eligible to apply for her learner's permit and start working on the requirements for her driver's license, and she says she's just as excited about that milestone.
