Nevada women’s basketball coach Jane Albright announced the signing of Desirae Gonzalez to a National Letter of Intent during Wednesday’s early signing period.
Gonzalez, a 5-11 three-point specialist, hails from Kingman, Ariz., Kingman High School and is part of the Navajo tribe. During her junior season she led the state of Arizona in scoring and averaged a double-double for the year at 29.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. For her efforts she was named the Region Player of the Year and earned an Arizona All-Academic Girls Basketball honorable mention. She has averaged in double figures in scoring in each of her three high school seasons.
“We are elated to add Desirae to our Wolf Pack family,” said Albright. “She is a big guard who is instant offense from anywhere on the court. Desirae is an outstanding student as well and excels in the classroom, on the court and as a leader in her school. She fits all of the values of our program and we’re excited for her to make an impact with us right away.”
Over the course of her high school career, Gonzalez has collected a slew of accolades including first team all-county, first team all-region, first team all-area, first team all-state, first team all-division, was an underclassman all-star, named the Superior Tire Player of the Year and is a two-time Division II Section I Player of the Year.
