1,000 pumpkin pies were sold at the Peppermill this morning all to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Each pie was sold for five dollars; one pie alone will provide fifteen people with a meal this holiday season.
The Peppermill has been hosting Pie it Forward for the last five years, and this year is said to have exceeded expectations.
"There were people lined up when they opened and so a lot of demand for these pies this year. It's really getting popular, people start talking about it weeks before hand,” says Jocelyn Lantrip the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
One community member I met has been coming to the Pie it Forward bake sale for last 3 years. He said although the pies are delicious, it's all about giving back.
"They do it right before Thanksgiving so that people can have an easy way to give back to the community, and then get out of baking,” says Lantrip.
If you couldn't make it out to the Pie it Forward bake sale this year, there’s always other ways you can give back.
