One of Reno's oldest homes was moved from Ralston Street to the 700 block of West 4th Street early Wednesday morning.

Jacobs Entertainment relocated the Nystrom Guest House to move forward with its plans for the new Fountain District - a mixed-use arts and entertainment district.

The gothic-style home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The Nystrom Guest House served as a divorce boarding house, assisting divorce-seekers needing to fulfill residency requirements in order to begin divorce proceedings. The Nystrom Guest House contributed to Reno’s status of “Divorce Capital of the World” at the time.

Jacobs Entertainment says it intends to include the Nystrom Guest House and the nearby Chapel of the Bells wedding chapel in a future phase of its West 4th Street redevelopment efforts.

Other preservation projects the development company has been spearheading include restoring all neon signs from buildings and motels along the 4th Street corridor.

Last year, Jacobs Entertainment relocated and preserved The Borland-Clifford House. The historic house built in 1885 is one of the only homes remaining in the area from the 19th century. Jacobs Entertainment sold the home to a local buyer for a mere $10.
