The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is teaming up with local and state departments for this year's "Junk the Junipers" event this Saturday.

Officials want homeowners to clear junipers, pines, rabbitbrush and other woody vegetation from around their homes in case of a wildfire.

You can take trimmings and clippings to the Division of Forestry office at 885 Eastlake Boulevard or to the lot adjacent to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District’s Fire Station 430, 11525 Red Rock Road in Silver Lake.

You will also get a 20% off coupon at Moana Nursery.

Materials that will not be accepted for chipping are: construction lumber, hazardous materials, lawn clippings, sod, dirt-infested vegetation, and tree stumps or limbs greater than 8 inches in diameter.

Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month is a collaborative effort of local, state and federal firefighting agencies; University of Nevada Cooperative Extension; and many others.
