We know thousands of people head into town for Hot August Nights every year, but the event also brings a lot of locals out as well.
"We have a lot of activities going on this week for locals to enjoy-- including our eating contests, which are hugely popular,” says Tracie Barnthouse, Atlantis Resort Casino Spa publicist.
Eating contests like jelly donuts that you can catch at the Atlantis starting at 8 o'clock Tuesday through Thursday. Wednesday is Twinkies - and Thursday is New York Cheesecake.
After all the eating, if you want to burn some calories you can check out the adult tricycle race. That's happening this year on Friday and Saturday nights, also at 8 p.m.
In general, the event’s hosts are hoping locals will make a strong showing this year. "We really want to make this a time for Reno to shine, and our locals make that happen. So we really encourage everyone to come out and show support for this great event."
