Flooding in south and central China has caused more than a dozen deaths and forced hundreds of thousands of people to seek emergency shelter.
Initial damage is estimated at more than $500 million, including the destruction of more than 1,000 homes since June 2.
Flooding is particularly bad in the southern region of Guangxi and in Hunan province just to the north.
Seasonal flooding on China's major rivers causes heavy damage each year. Authorities have used dams like the massive Three Gorges structure on the Yangtze to redice the hardship.
