The Transportation Security Administration says now is the time for Reno travelers who want to enroll in the TSA PreCheck program.
More than 8,000 people have enrolled in the quicker screening process in Reno since January of last year, but local enrollment is ending on December 18th.
Lorie Dankers, Spokesperson with the TSA, says people who enroll in PreCheck will enjoy a better experience at the airport this holiday season. These travelers will be able to go through security without taking off light jackets, belts and shoes.
"Passengers like this because it's a much quicker experience for them, they like it because they feel they are a low risk traveler and this is a recognition of that," says Dankers.
The TSA says since the PreCheck program began, more than 150 airports and millions of passengers have opted for the benefit of a faster security check.
Reno residents who still want to apply for the service locally need to act quickly. The current PreCheck enrollment location in Reno is at the Fingerprinting Express at 1320 E. Plumb Ln.
While Fingerprinting Express will remain open and continue servicing the community, the store will no longer offer TSA PreCheck after December 18th.
The TSA says the contractor who handles PreCheck is currently looking for a new Reno partner as soon as possible and they're hoping to bring back local enrollment by the spring.
