Lyon County Deputies Debunked Door Knocker But Need Help In Attempted Abduction Investigation

UPDATE: The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help from the community for a second child abduction attempt.

On 01-18-19, at approximately 5:15 pm, a juvenile male reported an attempted abduction in the area of Palmer Court in Dayton, NV.

An adult male in a spray painted green/black/red van approached the juvenile, ordered him to get in and threatened him with violence if he did not.

The juvenile ran to the area of Dayton High School to get away.

The driver and sole visible occupant of the van was described as a white male in his late thirties, balding on top with brown hair on the sides and a goatee.

The driver also has a 2 inch by 2 inch tattoo on the left side of his neck.

This is the second incident in the Dayton area, and may possibly be related to the incident in the Sutro area of Dayton.

If you see this vehicle or are familiar with it, please notify the Lyon County Sheriff's Office immediately at 911 or our 24-hour non-emergency number, (775) 577-5023.

If you have any additional tips in this case, you can also call Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 if you wish to remain anonymous. We do not recommend confronting anyone.

The Isuzu Rodeo, for the door knocking and door knob jiggling, has been located. He was checked by law enforcement and there is no threat from him at this time.

Lyon County Deputies urge residents to be vigilant after a series of reported suspicious incidents in Dayton and Carson City.

In the first incident, deputies say a man tried to lure a girl into his van Thursday night in the Sutro area.

Deputies say the girl was walking home when the suspect tried to get her into his van. She ran home and remained there until deputies arrived. Fortunately, she was not hurt.

The suspect van is described as an older model, and appeared 'boxy' in shape. They say the van was described as originally white, but spray painted either black or dark green. The man was described as white, in his 20s to 30s, wearing a jean styled jacket and a red shirt.

Deputies say later they were dispatched again to Sutro area homes for a man knocking on doors and "jigging the handles."

Witnesses describe this suspect as a heavyset white man wearing black pants and a red hoodie. It was also reported that the car he was driving was a dark colored SUV (possibly an Isuzu Rodeo).

Deputies say similar reports have also occurred in Carson City overnight, too. Authorities say it is unknown if these incidents are all related.

The LCSO urges everyone to remain vigilant about their surroundings, especially when walking in your neighborhoods. Let someone know where you are going, and try to walk in pairs. Keep your doors, windows, and cars locked.

If you've witnessed or have any information about these or similar incidents, contact the LCSO at (775) 577-5023 (Lt. Abel Ortiz or Detective Lt. Jerry Pattison). If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call the LCSO immediately at 911.

Deputies say they are taking all of these incidents very seriously. In addition, they have increased patrols in the neighborhoods during all shifts.
