Man Arrested After Shooting Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy

Authorities have arrested a 27-year-old Sacramento man they say shot a sheriff’s deputy on Tuesday evening.

Homicide detectives say Nicory Marquis Spann shot Deputy Alex Ladwig after the two got into a fight at the Regional Transit light rail station near Watt Avenue and Interstate 80. They say during the fight, Spann took the deputy’s gun and fired two shots. One of the two shots hit the deputy in the face.

After the shooting, the suspect ran into a nearby motel, where a perimeter was set up. About three hours later, deputies took Span into custody.

Spann was arrested for attempted murder on a peace officer, and was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is currently ineligible for bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on June 29, 2017.

It’s not clear what started the fight.
