At Least 4 Drown in Northern California Over Holiday Weekend

On August 13th, around 6:00 PM South Lake Tahoe Police Officers responded to the area of the Beachcomber Inn after a call about a missing jet skier,

Authorities say 22 year old Raeshon Williams from Oakland, CA had fallen off a jet ski without a life jacket.

Officials say that the two individuals who called the police said they and Williams rented jet skis from Tahoe Keys Marina; each jet ski came with a single life jacket. William’s friend was operating one of the skis while Williams was sitting on the back of the ski; both were not wearing life jackets. The jet ski hit a wave, forcing both men off the jet ski and into the lake. The driver of the jet ski came up from underneath the water, located the jet ski, swam to it and got back on the jet ski where he realized that Williams had not resurfaced.

The other individual of the party arrived on the second jet ski and both men looked around the water for Williams for about 15 minutes before calling 911.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office says Vessel, Marine 3, arrived as well as CHP helicopter. Marine 3 and the helicopter searched the area till about 7:30 PM when they found a body under the water, at least 100 yards off shore where the water is approximately 10 feet. Marine 3 recovered the body of Williams from the lake and immediately began CPR while transporting him to the pier, where they continued to do life saving measures, he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department says this event appears to be an accidental drowning, although the official cause of death is pending a medical examiner’s review.
