UPDATE: The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in connection to a murder case from October 2018.

They said 57-year-old Kenneth Davis was found guilty in August of murder with use of a deadly weapon, robbery and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

The Attorney's Office says the case began when Reno Police responded to a West Reno home on a report of a battery. They said the caller was the victim's wife, who reported her husband had been shot.

The Reno Police Homicide Unit detectives determined that Davis, who had recently come to Reno from California, was dating the couple's daughter.

The Attorney's Office says the victim, 56-year-old Eric Bobele, had allowed Davis to stay in his home temporarily until Davis could get his own place.

They said after overhearing the victim and his wife arguing about Davis using a new vehicle the victim had bought for his wife, Davis confronted the victim and shot him multiple times.

They said after the shooting, Davis stole the victim's car and fled to California. He was ultimately found in Colfax.

The Attorney's Office says Davis would later claim that he shot the victim in self-defense.

Original Story, October 2018: Reno Police say a man was arrested in California after a fatal shooting in west Reno on Sunday.

Police say 56-year-old Eric Bobele died after a domestic-related dispute inside his home near Grand Summit Drive and Mt. Grant Drive after 3:30 p.m.

They say the man's wife called police after she found him wounded inside the home.

Police say the initial investigation revealed the victim was shot by a male roommate who had then drove away in the victim’s car. Patrol officers quickly got the information out to other agencies, which resulted in the California Highway Patrol locating 56-year-old Kenneth Davis near Colfax. CHP ultimately arrested him for possession of a stolen vehicle and weapons charges.

Detectives say they responded to that location and completed an interview as well as recovered what they believe to be the weapon used in the homicide. Although the investigation is ongoing, police believe this is an isolated incident.

Detectives are currently working on obtaining an arrest warrant for local charges.
