The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office says a man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for hitting a police officer with his car back in August.Â
In December 2015, Russell Roberts pleaded guilty to felony charges of attempted murder on a police officer and battery with a deadly weapon on a police officer.Â
Authorities say Roberts drove his car toward an officer who was responding to an unrelated service call in the 100 block of Arlington Avenue on August 13, 2015.Â
They say after Roberts struck an officer with his car, the officer fired at the vehicle.Â
The officer suffered non-life threatening injuries, while Roberts was treated for a gunshot wound after being taken into custody at a motel on 4th Street in Reno two days later.
Roberts will be eligible for parole four years after he starts serving his sentence, which will begin after he finishes a 4-year sentence for a drug charge.
