Reports came in all across the West Coast of an object streaking across sky around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The object was seen breaking up into two pieces before fading away.
The Delta Aquarids meteor shower is peaking this week, but it has not been confirmed if the two incidents are connected.
Jay Lawson with the Nevada Astronomy Group tells Channel 2 that he also saw the object. He does not believe it was a meteor.
Lawson explains that the object could be seen for about 90 seconds, where as meteors, are only visible for a short time.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Strategic Command confirmed that a Chinese rocket re-entered the atmosphere near California at the same time that reports of the mysterious object began appearing on social media.
