Palisades Tahoe reported 38 inches of new snow over 72 hours during the latest storm system, with 19 of those inches coming in the last 24 hours.Â
Plenty of skiers and snowboarders are taking advantage of the new powder.
"I'm just so grateful that winter arrived," said Amie Engebretson.
"I can't feel my face right now," said James Dryden.
In spite of the new snow, Maddy Condon, a spokesperson for Palisades Tahoe, said they haven't opened anything more as a result of the new snow. Currently, about 80% of the terrain is open, and they hope to increase that number soon.
"We'll always continue to expand terrain as possible," Condon said. "This amount of snowfall is pretty amazing. We're at 143 inches for the season so far."
James Dryden lives in nearby Tahoe City and has been coming to Palisades his whole life. He said he's glad the mountain isn't partaking in Dry January this year.
"It gets a little bit depressing around here, you know, when it's so dry for a while," he said. "And then once we get that big dump or two, it's like everyone's automatically in a better mood."
Amie Engebretson is on the resort's athlete team. She says the favorable conditions have made her forget the slow start to the season.
"We had three feet over Christmas. Winter was late, but it's been so good lately that I don't even remember that it arrived late," she said.
Engebretson took a few photos for the resort, and says the new snow helped her get some great shots and have some fun afterward.
"We got some good ones. It was over-the-head, blower face shots and then I got to go take a couple free laps for my soul, and it was awesome," Engerbretson said.Â
With new snow and plenty of terrain, Condon said now is a great time to stop by.
"The snow is soft. It's definitely fun. And, you don't want to miss out on this winter," Condon said.
If you want to take advantage of the fresh snow, Condon said skiers and snowboarders should use the buddy system and watch out for deep snow, especially around the base of trees.
