The Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team rescued a downed paraglider near Sonora Pass on July 3.
An InReach SOS activation was received just before 12:30 p.m. from a paraglider who had crashed in the vicinity of Sonora Pass, along the upper portion of Brownie Creek, according to a post on Facebook from the Search and Rescue Team.
Multiple agencies and air resources responded to the incident.
The paraglider was assessed, and the on-scene paramedic and the paraglider determined that the observable injuries were less serious than initially believed.
With occasional help from rescuers on scene, the paraglider began moving down the mountainside under their own power.
Eventually, the paraglider was taken the rest of the way to a Care Flight helicopter and taken to Renown in Reno.
It was later determined that one of the paraglider's lines was routed incorrectly and wrapped around the canopy. Upon launch, this caused a significant deformation of the wing, contributing to the crash, according to the post.
