Nevada County residents may notice smoke across a wide area this week as crews conduct a planned prescribed burn along Pleasant Valley Road on the San Juan Ridge in the Northern Sierra Nevada Foothills.
According to CAL FIRE NEU in an online post, the burn began around 11 a.m. and covers approximately 50 acres.
Terra Fuego is carrying out the operation in collaboration with the Resource Conservation District, with the goal of reducing wildfire fuel hazards, controlling the spread of invasive Scotch Broom, and improving forage quality in the area.
The project is funded through a CAL FIRE Fire Prevention grant and has been fully permitted by CAL FIRE and the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District.
Residents are advised that smoke may be visible across neighboring communities during the operation. Officials say the burn is carefully planned and monitored to minimize risks.
