On Sunday, some dirt bike riders found what appeared to be human remains in a hard-to-access area in Plumas County.
The area was south of Highway 70 and west of Clio State Route 40A.
Because the location is difficult to get to, staff from the Plumas County Search and Rescue and Detectives from the Plumas County Sheriff's Office were not able to get to the area until Monday.
When staff was able to reach the area, they were able to confirm that the remains were human.
The body had been decomposed and hit by weather, so they are not immediately identifiable. However, officials say there is evidence at the scene that suggests that the body is that of Portola resident Anthony Evans, who went missing in December of 2023.
An investigation is ongoing - the Plumas County Sheriff's Office asks that if you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Plumas County Sheriff's Office at (530) 283-6300.
