A Reno woman is accused of starting Wednesday's Crystal Peak Fire southeast of Loyalton, California.

Sierra County Sheriff's Office say they think the less than four-acre fire started at Sarah Ortstadt's campsite, in the Dog Valley area.

Ortstadt was arrested and booked into the Nevada County Sheriff's Office Jail in Nevada City where the 50-year-old now faces a charge of unlawfully causing a fire on forest land.

During the investigation, deputies also found suspected methamphetamine, and Ortstadt was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. She was additionally booked for Health and Safety Code section 11550(a) – Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and Health and Safety Code section 11377(a) – Possession of Methamphetamine.

Fire crews are responding to a small fire southeast of Loyalton, California. 

The fire started near the Crystal Mine, located southeast of Babbitt Peak in Sierra County. 

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue say the Crystal Peak Fire is currently less than four acres in size and that forward progress has been stopped.

TMFR says the fire is located on Forest Service land, so Forest Service firefighters are also responding. 

A plume of smoke could be seen across some of the valley near Cold Springs.
