A Susanville man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree attempted murder and assault with a firearm.

Corey Jay Cutler was convicted in October of last year, according to a Facebook post from the Lassen County District Attorney.

The jury also found true that he personally discharged a firearm in the commission of the offense and that he inflicted great bodily injury to the victim.

In July of 2023, Cutler shot the victim around five times at the Frontier Inn in Susanville.

He then fled California and was later arrested in Nevada, where he faced other charges until being extradited back to California to stand trial for attempted murder.

In a split proceeding, Cutler was found to have sustained a prior strike conviction and to have served two other prison terms.

Cutler is currently serving a 5 to 12-year prison term in Nevada, and upon completion will return to California to begin his life sentence.

According to the court, he should be eligible for parole after serving approximately 17 years of that sentence.
