The Nevada Supreme Court has a new Chief Justice.

Justice Elissa F. Cadish officially assumed the role on Tuesday, taking over for Justice Lidia S. Stiglich, who had been serving in the role.

The Chief Justice holds a variety of responsibilities including acting as the administrative head of the Nevada Judiciary as well as the official public voice of the Nevada Supreme Court.

“I am proud and humbled to be entrusted with the responsibility of being Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court,” said Chief Justice Cadish in a press release. “Justice Stiglich performed admirably in this important role, and I am grateful to be following in her capable footsteps.”

Cadish was appointed by then Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons in 2007 to fill a district judge vacancy in the Eighth Judicial District Court for Clark County.

She was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2018 and started her term as part of the state's first-ever majority female Nevada Supreme Court in January of 2019.
