The victim of a fatal crash that happened on U.S. 93 south of Wells last Friday has been identified.
23-year-old Akary Garcia Santos of Garden Grove, California, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and succumbed to them later that afternoon, according to a release from the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 1:35 p.m. on August 7 near mile marker 63 in Elko County, about 11 miles south of Wells.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a gold Chevrolet Suburban SUV was heading north on U.S. 93 while a silver Kia SUV driven by Santos was heading south.
The Chevy crossed the center line, and Santos swerved to avoid a crash. The left front of the Chevrolet struck the left front of the Kia.
The investigation into the crash is open and ongoing. It is being conducted by the NHP's Major Incident Reconstruction Team.
