Fire restrictions are in effect in the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District started on Tuesday, July 2, and will be in effect until further notice.
According to Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, all outdoor recreational and cooking fires, campfires and bonfires are banned, except for propane, electric and pellet-fueled barbecues.
The following activities are also banned:
- Smoking outdoors
- Welding
- Operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame
- Operating a chainsaw or other equipment with an internal combustion engine between 1 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue also wants to remind folks that fireworks, tracer ammunition and exploding targets are illegal year-round.
It also doesn't recommend shooting at this time, especially with steel-tipped ammunition.
