The Nevada Ethics Commission has agreed to a stipulated settlement to settle a yearslong ethics case with then-gubernatorial candidate Joe Lombardo.
The panel voted 5-3 to find that Lombardo did not purposefully violate ethics laws when he wore his sheriff's uniform and badge while campaigning for governor. He will be assessed $5,000 which will go the State General Fund.
The panel noted after Lombardo was sworn-in as governor he sought ethics training from the commission for his entire office and that he got additional training.

OCTOBER 2, 2023:
Governor Joe Lombardo is suing the Nevada Ethics Commission.
The suit comes after the Ethics Commission fined the governor for wearing his sheriff's uniform and badge while campaigning.
Governor Lombardo has appealed that decision.
The lawsuit, filed in the First Judicial District Court in Carson City, is also challenging the authority of the commission.
The suit argues a separation of powers clause within the state constitution is violated because half the commission's members are appointed by the legislature.
The suit is asking a judge to invalidate the commission's fine.
