Today the IRS launched its new Direct File Pilot Program.
They say it could save taxpayers time and money.
The program is available in 12 states including Nevada.
More than 20,000 taxpayers started or submitted their taxes during the testing phase and the IRS says that early users have given direct filing positive reviews.
This new program marks the first time that people can electronically submit a tax return directly to the IRS through their website.
Using the direct file pilot program is free and one of the most important aspects of the program is user friendliness and transparency.
"Direct file is designed to be easy for taxpayers to use at every step. It clearly shows the work behind the calculations. This will help taxpayers be confident that the tax return is complete and accurate," said IRS commissioner Danny Werfel.
To find the free program, just go online and search IRS Direct File Program or visit IRS.gov.
Once there, you can check to see if you are eligible to use it.
Direct File requires you to live in one of the 12 eligible states and have certain types of identification and income.
You can only take the standard tax deduction and the program only works with certain kinds of health insurance.
You also need an IRS account with ID.me.
If you run into any issues when checking your eligibility, the Direct File Program has a live chat feature where you can reach a real representative for assistance.
