Share your christmas years

Some years feel more like Christmas than others, but this year Share Your Christmas will feel more like giving in October instead of December.

The average high for this time of year is 47 degrees, and the average low is 26.

The record at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for December 12th is 69 degrees, set back in 1921.

While it won’t be that warm this year, it will be roughly fifteen degrees above average for the middle of December.

Reno SYC

Carson City has the same forecast as Reno.

Fernley SYC

Thanks to inversions, it will still be chilly early Friday, with lows at or below freezing.

There will only be a slight difference in temperatures between donation locations, with highs in the mid 50’s to the low 60’s. Fernley will be the coolest with a high of 54 degrees.

Minden SYC

Minden will be the warmest with a high of 62 degrees.

SYC temp stats

Looking back at the stats since 1993, Reno has a 3% chance of only being in the 20’s on the second Friday of December, a 19% chance of being in the 30’s, a 34% chance of being in the 40’s, a 34% chance of being in the 50’s, and a 9% chance of being in the 60’s.

This means that there is a 44% chance of being 50 degrees or hotter, but a 56% chance of being colder than 50 degrees.

Not every high is met in the afternoon, so it is possible that some years the high was met in the morning and then cooled down during the day because of snow, rain, or a front.
