On Saturday, June 1, children had the opportunity to catch their first fish at the Kid's Fishing Derby in Gardnerville.
The event has been going on for over 30 years, and this is its first year returning since covid.
The kids seemed ecstatic to be out catching fish with their families.
In preparation for the event, nearly 5,000 fish were dumped into the water at Lampe Park and many kids caught multiple fish.
The event also had plenty of food and over 150 raffle prizes.
Once the kids caught the fish, they got to weigh it for the contest and then prep it to be eaten.
A three-year-old caught one of the biggest fish at over six pounds.
The derby is run by volunteers and is funded by donations from the community.
The last day of the event will be Sunday, June 2.
