On Tuesday night, a local brewery, Schussboom Brewing Company, hosted a watch party for the Capitol Christmas tree lighting in Washington, D.C.

Members of the community were able to enjoy good food and drink, as well as spread some holiday spirit while cheering on a local boy who lit the tree.

Grady Armstrong, a Virginia City 4th grader, won an essay contest with a piece about his love for the Nevada outdoors.

"Nevada is not just a desert. It's full of life, history, and beauty. And I think everyone should know how important it is to protect and enjoy these amazing places," said Grady during the ceremony. "I want the country to know how special Nevada Public Lands and National Forests are."

Local supporters erupted in cheers for this at Schussboom. After his speech, Grady lit the 53-foot-tall tree.

Team members at Schussboom spoke about the community gathering,

"It's really a historic moment. It's the first time the tree has come from Nevada. We are just so thrilled," said Garrett Braun, Marketing Manager.

"It's always exciting to do something for the community. First time ever in Nevada history," said Hector Estrada, Brewer.

We even ran into family members of Grady, cheering him on from here at home.

"He's an incredible little boy, and he's very poised. I couldn't believe it. I was crying when I saw him getting interviewed by the Senator today. The whole thing is incredible," said Holly Siig, Grady's cousin.Â
