Communities across the country are marking the National Day of Service and Remembrance this month, coming together to honor the lives lost in the 2001 attacks through volunteer work.
On Thursday, September 11, and throughout the month, neighbors, schools, companies, and civic groups are joining forces to support local needs, strengthen connections, and remember those affected by the attacks.
JustServe.org, an official partner of 911Day.org, connects volunteers with nonprofits, schools, and community organizations seeking help. The platform lists more than 16,000 opportunities worldwide for individuals or groups to serve on September 11 and beyond.
Volunteers can search for projects in their area, register for shifts, and find details on what to bring or wear. Organizers encourage participants to post their experiences and invite friends, family, and community members to join.
The 9/11 Day of Service provides opportunities to honor lives lost, promote healing, and support local needs. Projects range from food drives and disaster cleanup to tutoring and assembling care kits.
Several local events are planned in Northern Nevada, including:
- Move with the Mayor, cemetery cleanup in Carson City at 1044 Beverly Dr, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on September 13.
- Truckee River cleanup at 1803 Kinglet Dr., Spanish Springs, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on September 13.
- Make Bears for the children’s hospital at 570 E. 4th St., Sun Valley, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on September 13.
