More than two years ago, a car crashed into the Haven on Earth Bakery in south Reno off Double R Boulevard. At the time, the bakery used to share the space with Rising for People Coffee Company.

"Extremely scary situation even if it's the second or hundredth time, hopefully it doesn't happen again,” said Krystal Minera-Alvis, Owner of Haven on Earth.

There’s a saying that lighting never strikes the same place twice but apparently that doesn’t apply to cars.

On Thursday, a car broke through the front entrance, nearly hitting a mom and her child and some of the staff.

"Heartbroken, sad,” Minera-Alvis said when describing the emotions of the situation. “No one wants to go through a situation like this but I think the one thing we just came out of was, thank God no one was hurt."

The owner says the two situations were similar. The one two years ago, involved an elder man who accidentally hit the gas, instead of the brakes.

The recent crash, according to Minera-Alvis, was due to an elder woman having a medical emergency.

“Similar situation and the biggest difference was where she hit,” the owner said. “There was a lot more glass damage because she went through our entire store front. We basically don’t have a door; we don't have windows anymore."

What might be the most surprising part is the bakery didn’t miss a beat and still opened Friday to serve customers.

"We have an amazing team, amazing team,” she said. “They stayed here, cleaned, till every single last piece of glass, debris, garbage was picked up."

The owner says the City of Reno, Reno firefighters, and the health department all came by to help get the bakery ready to roll.

They made a makeshift door, before giving the business the green light, but the next steps involve playing the waiting game.

"We really just have to wait on insurance, landlord all of those, we don't own the buildings, so we do have to wait for the process,” she said.

Haven on Earth, at this time, is not planning on starting a fundraiser. Minera-Alvis says they are trusting in insurance to take care of it all.

She says if you want to help, just simply come on down and try them out.
