Animal Ark park will be closed on Tuesday, April 29. Mr. Peabody, one of the park’s desert tortoises, has passed away following a period of age-related decline and persistent upper respiratory infections.
In an online Facebook post, Animal Ark says that after years of treatment and symptom management, veterinarians and staff determined that euthanasia was the most humane option for Mr. Peabody.
The post says that Mr. Peabody had a way of touching the hearts and souls of the people in his life, and the closure allows staff time to process his loss while continuing to provide care for the park’s other animals.
They thanked all the keepers who dedicated many hours to taking the best possible care of him, handling his special needs, which included breathing treatments and medications.
