Gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford spent Tuesday working his way through some campaign stops in Reno.
He concluded with a town hall to talk to Washoe County residents about his plans to lower costs.
Before that, he stopped by local small businesses and talked to owners about the struggles they say they've been facing in what they call the "Lombardo-Trump economy."
Ford is working to share his plan to lower costs for working families as part of his "Stuff Cost Too Much" tour.
Attorney General Ford said, "One of the things we're doing in this campaign for governor is talking to people all across the state, small businesses in particular, figuring out ways in which we can work with them, hearing about some of the concerns that they've had and problems that they've had, some of the difficulties they've had in operating under this new Lombardo-Trump economy."
Ford says he has been working to help small businesses since his days in the State Senate.
Business owners say President Trump’s tariffs have added to their struggles to keep their business running successfully.
Mario Jimenez, owner of Senor Tequila's Mexican Kitchen & Cantina in Reno, told us, "The prices of the producers of all the meat markets, all of it. When you see, like, kind of the, the sunlight coming out, next comes another increase of prices from another end. And that definitely affects us tremendously."
Attorney General Ford says he will continue to fight against tariffs.
He told us, "The unlawful tariffs that Trump is trying yet again to pass, I sued him yesterday over these 37 tariffs. We'll continue to fight those, and we're trying to lower these costs so you can put money back in your pockets so that you can pay your employees."
People who showed up to Tuesday night’s town hall wanted to hear more about his stance on the disability benefits they receive from the state.
Rachel Dailey, town hall attendee, said, "This policy says if I speak out or say anything negative about them, that they might be able to cancel my services. And I'm afraid that even speaking out here might get me canceled. And I'm hoping hearing Ford won't let them do that."
Others who attended stated how important it is to have community members show up to these town halls to be able to voice their opinions and have their concerns heard, no matter what side they are on.
Elizabeth Manick, another town hall attendee, told us, "I think it's absolutely fantastic to see that we have some bipartisanship in there this evening. We have people on both sides of the aisle. I can feel that. And they're asking some tough questions. And I think Attorney General Ford is going to be able to answer them honestly and with the integrity that he stands in."
Governor Joe Lombardo put out a statement in response to Ford’s campaign event, saying, "The contrast is simple: Governor Lombardo is fighting to lower costs and expand opportunities for Nevada families, and Aaron Ford is trying to make life more unaffordable."
