In mid-May and later in the year, the Carson City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be offering a free academy for basic training.
Those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to apply.
If you would like to attend the CERT Basic Training Academy in May, send an email to CERT at cert@carson.org.
To be considered for a spot in the May academy, you will receive an application that needs to be filled out and sent back to cert@carson.org by Tuesday, April 22.
There are only a certain number of seats available for the CERT Basic Training Academy.
CERT is a nationwide organization of community volunteers who assist first responders in the case of an actual catastrophe and help prepare their local communities for important occurrences.
Disaster preparedness, fire safety and utility control, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology, light search and rescue, and terrorism are among the topics covered in the Basic Training Academy.
No prior training or specific skills are required to participate in this class, and you do not need to live in Carson City.
If you’re between 16-17 years old, you can attend with a signed parent’s permission release.
Approximately 26 hours of classroom teaching are provided throughout the academy training over the course of six sessions spread over two weeks (May 8–10 and again May 15–17, Thursday–Friday evenings, and Saturday full day), with a practical demonstration at the end.
To graduate, all sessions must be finished.
Those that are accepted will receive information about the training location.
Participation in Carson City CERT activities throughout the year, such as monthly training meetings, additional training and exercises, distributing preparedness materials to the public during public events, and assisting first responders during emergencies, will be strongly encouraged for community members who successfully complete the CERT Basic Training Academy.
