Carson City Sheriff's patrol car

An inmate who died in Carson City jail is now being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say the unidentified inmate died just after 1:45 pm. on Saturday.

They say he had been in custody since November 19, 2025 after a judge issued a warrant for Failure to Appear and his arrest in Reno. The inmate’s original custody charge was Indecent Exposure, taking place on November 23, 2022, and an additional Contempt of Court Warrant arrest was recorded on February 17, 2023 resulting from the same original offense.

They say another inmate notified staff about the man who's believed to have suffered from medical issues, while in the shower. Staff responded and found the man struggling, but still responsive. They moved him to another area by wheelchair, but as he was moved, he collapsed and eventually died.

According to jail records, they say he had a long history of medical problems.

By previously established protocol, this custody death is being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Investigations Division.

His name will be released once family members are notified.Â
