The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to stay alert and follow traffic laws to help prevent crashes.
Since June 1, Carson City has reported 25 crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders.
According to the sheriff’s office, cyclists and e-bike riders were involved in 18 of those crashes. They were determined to be at fault in 13 of those cases.
There were also five pedestrian-involved crashes, and the sheriff’s office says motorists were at fault in all five.
Pedestrians have the right-of-way when they are in a crosswalk or roadway. Drivers are required to yield and should use extra caution when approaching intersections and crosswalks.
Drivers must also come to a complete stop when pedestrians are crossing at a crosswalk and cannot pass another vehicle that has stopped for a pedestrian.
The sheriff’s office is also reminding cyclists that they must follow traffic signs, signals and other traffic laws. Bicyclists must ride in the same direction as traffic, use hand signals when turning or stopping, and ride as far to the right as practicable.
